The Alabama Cannabis Coalition reminds our members and supporters that the Alabama Legislature is currently in session. This is not the time to disengage. Your voice matters right now.

As of February 5, 2026, we are closely monitoring three critical bills:

 SB1 / 2026 — Threat to the Hemp Industry

Sponsor: AL State Senator April Weaver

This bill continues efforts to restrict and dismantle Alabama’s legal hemp market.

  • Would limit sales to pharmacies only

  • Adds certain hemp derivatives to Schedule I

  • Further restricts consumer access

  • Continues the legacy of HB445/2025

 Take Action:

Our Position:  Oppose
This bill harms consumers, small businesses, and personal freedom.

 HB14 / 2026 — Citizen Power & Ballot Access

Sponsor: Rep. Marilyn Lands

This bill would finally allow citizens to petition for ballot initiatives.

  • Creates a public petition process

  • Empowers voters

  • Gives citizens a direct voice

  • Strengthens democracy in Alabama

 Support This Bill:

Our Position:  Support
This is a major step toward real citizen participation.

 HB72 / 2026 — Civil Liberties at Risk

Sponsor: Rep. Patrick L. Sellers

This bill is deeply concerning and threatens family rights and due process.

Key concerns:

  • “Smell of marijuana” is subjective

  • Triggers mandatory reporting

  • Risks unnecessary investigations

  • Disrupts families

  • Diverts limited DHR resources

  • Erodes civil liberties

Although it has passed the House, it is now headed to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

 Urgent Action Needed:

Our Position:  Oppose
Protecting children requires strong families and evidence-based policy — not overreach.

 YOUR VOICE MATTERS

We strongly encourage every member and supporter to:

Press Release - Alabama Cannabis Coalition Condemns Governor Ivey and Legislature for Stripping Legal Access to Cannabis While Celebrating Big Pharma Expansion

12/10/2025

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Alabama Cannabis Coalition

Date: December 2025

Alabama Cannabis Coalition Condemns Governor Ivey and Legislature for Stripping Legal Access to Cannabis While Celebrating Big Pharma Expansion

The Alabama Cannabis Coalition (ACC) is sounding the alarm on the continued betrayal of Alabama citizens as state leaders choose to protect pharmaceutical interests over the health, freedom, and rights of the people they were elected to represent.

Under the guidance of Governor Kay Ivey, the Alabama Legislature passed HB445—legislation that removed “legal” access to hemp-derived products used safely and effectively by thousands of Alabamians. At the same time, SB46/2021, the law that was supposed to provide “medical” access to cannabis more than four years ago, remains unimplemented. The result is clear: Alabama created a state-sanctioned medical cannabis cartel that has not served a single sick, suffering, or dying resident.

While patients continue to wait—and while citizens lose access to the very products that were providing relief—Governor Ivey and Alabama’s elected Representatives are proudly celebrating the grand opening of a pharmaceutical facility known for its opposition to cannabis. This celebration comes at the exact moment when Alabamians are being denied access to the natural plant medicine they have demanded for more than a decade.

“It is unacceptable and immoral,” said the Alabama Cannabis Coalition. “Our Governor is cheering the arrival of more synthetic pharmaceuticals—many with long lists of dangerous side effects—while simultaneously denying citizens safe, legal access to cannabis. The people of Alabama deserve better.”

For more than 88 years, Alabama has upheld cannabis prohibition policies that harm families, criminalize patients, and empower monopolies. The passage of HB445 and the failure to implement SB46/2021 make one thing painfully clear: patient access, public health, and civil liberties are not priorities for this administration.

The Alabama Cannabis Coalition calls on lawmakers to immediately:

• Restore legal access to hemp-derived products.

• Implement SB46/2021 without further delay.

• End cannabis prohibition and prevent pharmaceutical monopolies from controlling natural medicine.

• Protect the rights, health, and freedom of Alabama citizens—not corporate interests.

“Alabamians deserve access, not excuses. They deserve freedom, not criminalization. They deserve cannabis—not another pharmaceutical monopoly masquerading as progress.”

The Alabama Cannabis Coalition will continue to advocate fiercely during the 2026 Legislative Session to overturn HB445, restore access, and end the political manipulation that has harmed citizens for far too long.
