Alabama Cannabis Coalition Hosts 7th Annual Lobby Day at Alabama State House
Dr. Will Boyd Delivers Keynote Address on Hemp Industry and Legislative Reform
Montgomery, AL — The Alabama Cannabis Coalition (ACC) hosted its 7th Annual Lobby Day on February 24, 2026, at the Alabama State House, continuing its fourteen-year commitment to legislative advocacy on cannabis and hemp policy in Alabama.
The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Will Boyd, 2026 gubernatorial candidate, who has been enthusiastically endorsed by the ACC since August 2025 after developing a comprehensive Hemp Plan for Alabama.
Addressing the economic impact of HB445, Dr. Boyd stated, “People are hurting. I talk to people about what they are suffering. I talked to one man that had to dispose of 60 percent of his product.” He continued, “I believe this is a step back for farmers and patients. I believe it is a step back in freedom.”
Dr. Boyd also emphasized the importance of informed policymaking, stating, “It is not right to hate something without taking the time to understand it,” referring to legislators who supported HB445.
Also in attendance was ACC-endorsed House District 55 candidate Keith O. Williams. The campaign manager for State Senate District 4 candidate JR Bowling was present on behalf of the campaign.
Throughout the day, ACC members met with legislators to discuss the ongoing implementation of SB46/2021, patient access concerns, and the economic consequences of the 2025 legislative changes impacting Alabama’s hemp industry.
The 7th Annual Lobby Day received media coverage from WSFA-TV, Alabama Gazette, and Alabama Politics, reflecting continued public and media interest in cannabis and hemp policy in Alabama.
“The Alabama Cannabis Coalition remains committed to ensuring that farmers, patients, and small business owners have a voice in Montgomery,” said H. Marty Schelper, Founder and President of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition. “Our work continues.”
