ALABAMA CANNABIS COALITION: PATIENT EDUCATION REMAINS CRITICAL AS MEDICAL CANNABIS PROGRAM BEGINS SERVING PATIENTS
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Cannabis Coalition recognizes the opening of Alabama's first medical cannabis dispensary, Callie's Apothecary, as an important milestone in the implementation of Alabama's medical cannabis program.
According to the dispensary's public announcement, Callie's Apothecary, located at 5232 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery, will begin serving patients this week, with a soft opening on June 3, 2026, followed by its Grand Opening on June 4, 2026. The opening marks the beginning of direct patient access through Alabama's medical cannabis program.
For many Alabama patients and caregivers, this moment has been years in the making. As patient access becomes a reality, the Alabama Cannabis Coalition continues to hear from citizens across the state who remain unsure how the program works, whether they qualify, and what steps are required to participate.
"Access does not begin at the dispensary door—it begins with informed patients," said H. Marty Schelper, Founder and President of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition.
"Today's opening represents an important milestone for Alabama patients. However, many citizens are still searching for basic information about physician certification, patient registration, qualifying conditions, and the requirements necessary to participate in the state's medical cannabis program. Patient education remains essential to ensuring that those who qualify can successfully navigate the process."
