2nd Press Release regarding Public Education Campaign by the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission
“At this time, we have not seen a clear public education effort outlining how patients can participate in the program. Public education is a critical component of implementation, and at this time, it is not visible to the public.”

No Response Continues Following Public Education Inquiry on Alabama Medical Cannabis Program
Alabama — On March 22, 2026, an inquiry was sent to the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission and Kay Ivey regarding a critical implementation issue: how the public will be informed that Alabama’s medical cannabis program is moving forward.
A press release was issued on March 27, 2026, raising the same concerns and seeking clarity on public education efforts.
As of March 31, 2026, no response has been received following both direct outreach and public inquiry.
The continued absence of a response raises additional concerns regarding how patients across Alabama are expected to navigate the program without clear and accessible public guidance.
Public Awareness Remains Unaddressed
After nearly five years since the passage of the Compassion Act, many citizens remain unaware that the program is being implemented.
Without a clear public education effort:
Physicians cannot qualify patients if patients are unaware the program is operational
Patients cannot establish a portal and connect with a qualified physician if they do not know the system is active
Qualified patients cannot obtain products if they are unaware that access is becoming available
Without direct and effective communication, patients may continue to be left behind as the program moves forward.
Statement from H. Marty Schelper
“We have now reached out privately and publicly, and still have not received a response,” said H. Marty Schelper, Founder/President of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition.
“Patients should not be left to navigate this process without clear direction. Public awareness is not optional — it is essential for this program to function.”
“This is not about criticism. It is about ensuring that the people this program was intended to serve are not left without guidance after years of waiting.”
Call for Direct Public Engagement
