Alabama Cannabis Coalition Urges Lawmakers to Oppose SB321

Advocates Warn Bill Would Shut Down Alabama Hemp Industry

Montgomery, Alabama — The Alabama Cannabis Coalition is urging members of the Alabama Senate Healthcare Committee to oppose SB321, legislation that would classify hemp-derived psychoactive cannabinoids such as Delta-8, Delta-9, and Delta-10 THC as controlled substances under Alabama law.

Advocates say the legislation would effectively eliminate Alabama’s hemp industry, impacting farmers, small businesses, and consumers across the state.

Under current Alabama law, certain hemp-derived products may be sold to adults over the age of 21 and are subject to testing and labeling requirements. SB321 would repeal those provisions and classify hemp-derived psychoactive cannabinoids as controlled substances.

The Alabama Cannabis Coalition is encouraging concerned citizens to contact members of the Alabama Senate Healthcare Committee and voice opposition to the bill.

What Advocates Are Saying

“The hemp industry has provided economic opportunities for Alabama farmers and entrepreneurs while offering legal access to hemp products for consumers,” said representatives of the Alabama Cannabis Coalition. “SB321 would dismantle that entire framework.”

“We are encouraging citizens across Alabama to contact members of the Senate Healthcare Committee and make their voices heard. Decisions like this should not be made without hearing from the people who will be directly impacted.”
